What is FCC certification? Why do we need to obtain FCC certification?
Source:Industry Trends2026-03-05

1、What is FCC certification?FCC stands for Federal Communications Commission,which is an agency of the US federal government responsible for managing the radio spectrum in the United States.The Federal Communications Commission prevents"radio and broadcast pollution"by enforcing broadcasting standards and regulating electromagnetic noise sources.

Electrical and electronic products may generate radio spectrum noise,and when current moves inside electrical products,it will generate electromagnetic waves that will pass through space.These waves may affect other currents in other products and cause unnecessary interference.

The Federal Communications Commission(FCC)in the United States is responsible for developing,implementing,and applying the conventions established by the 1934 law and the 1996 Telecommunications Act in communications.The FCC is a federal government agency in the United States that aims to manage all forms of telecommunications;The United States includes radio,television,digital cameras,Bluetooth,wireless devices,and various RF electronic products.

2、There are three common certification modes for FCC certification.FCC certification regulations stipulate different certification modes The requirements for adding labels and warning messages are also different,which requires manufacturers to first determine which certification mode their products belong to before producing FCC labels.FCC related regulatory documents have clear regulations on the certification modes that different products can choose from,including these three certification modes The degree of strictness varies.Relatively speaking,the strictness of the first three modes increases,with Certification(obtaining FCC ID)being the most stringent,and there are relatively many difficulties in certification and technology.

(1)Self verification mode refers to the necessary testing conducted by manufacturers or importers to ensure the safety of their products.Equipment suitable for self verification includes commercial computers,receivers for IV and FM,and industrial,scientific,and medical devices used by non mass consumers under FCC Rule Part 18.

(2)Declaration of Conformity(DOC)mode

Require the equipment responsible party(usually the manufacturer or importer)to have the product inspected by a qualified organization designated by FCC,attach corresponding labels to the product,make a statement in the user manual,and keep the report for review;

Devices suitable for this method include:home computers and peripherals,civilian broadcast receivers,other receivers under FCC Rule Part 15,cable system terminal devices,and industrial devices used by mass consumers under Part 18.DOC certification can also be used for products suitable for Verification.

(3)Certified Certificon(Get ID)mode

The FCC authorized certification body reviews the samples(or photos)and testing data submitted by the applicant,and if they meet the requirements of the rules,grants the device an FCC ID number;Devices suitable for this method include:low-level transmitters such as cordless phones,wireless remote control toys and safety alarm systems,automatic frequency conversion receivers,etc The equipment responsible party shall ensure that the corresponding equipment obtains an FCC authorized ID number

3、What products require FCC certification?The Federal Communications Commission(FCC)regulates the import and use of radio frequency devices,including computers,fax machines,electronic devices,radio receiving and transmitting equipment,radio controlled toys,telephones,personal computers,and other products that may pose a threat to personal safety.If these products are to be exported to the United States,they must comply with FCC standards,i.e.FCC licenses.

The FCC divides regulated products into two categories based on their usage:A and B.A is products used for commercial or industrial purposes,while B is products used for household purposes.The FCC has stricter regulatory requirements for B products;This is because home users generally lack the professional skills training that professional technicians possess;And the electrical safety environment at home is not as favorable as the office environment.So the safety requirements for products used by household users are stricter than those used in commercial and industrial environments.

4、Why do we need to obtain FCC certification?

FCC certification is the passport for products to enter the American market.Products can only be sold in the American market if they meet the corresponding FCC certification and are labeled accordingly;For consumers,products with logos give them a high sense of security,and they trust and are only willing to purchase products with safety certification logos.
