1、 Introduction to BSMI Certification

Under the leadership of the government's economic department, the Taiwan Bureau of Standards and Inspection (BSMI) formulates product inspection standards for electronic and electrical products entering the Taiwan market, and requires that products must comply with safety, EMC testing, and related inspections before being authorized to use the BSMI logo. BSMI certification is a mandatory product certification that requires both EMC electromagnetic compatibility and SAFETY (safety regulations). The validity period of BSMI certification is usually 3 years, however, BSMI currently does not conduct factory inspections, but must follow the regulations of the Standards Bureau. So, the certification model of BSMI is: product inspection+registration supervision.

2、 BSMI certified product scope

If your product falls within the following scope, you need to apply for verification to expand the domestic market:

1. Mandatory Commodity Inspection Mark (CI MARK): Electrical products (such as household appliances), electronic products (such as information and entertainment audiovisual equipment), mechanical products (such as power tool equipment), chemical products (such as tires and toys);

2. CNS MARK: Industrial products, building materials, wires, household appliances, automotive parts, industrial raw materials, or competitors' products that already have the CNS MARK;

3. Voluntary Product Verification Mark (VPC MARK): Safety critical components, digital set-top boxes, lamp holders, battery chargers, restricted hazardous substances, lithium batteries, vehicle electromagnetic compatibility, sports and fitness equipment, etc.

4、 BSMI Certified Product Catalog

6、 Application Method for BSMI Certification

Type approval includes two types

1. Type approval (EMC+Safety) has been required for 178 types of electronic and electrical products since January 1, 2004. Applicable standards: EMC+Safety. The required documents include (product type approval application, company or factory license, test report, technical documents for electromagnetic compatibility: photos, labels, components with electromagnetic interference, block diagram and user manual, and safety technical documents). Certificate validity period: Three years, extendable once.

2. EMC type approval (replacing the original EMC application) is mandatory from November 1, 2002. Applicable products: 61 electronic and electrical products only require EMI requirements, while 124 electronic and electrical products only require EMI+safety reports (if the product has safety requirements). Applicable standards: Only EMI. The required documents include (application for electromagnetic compatibility type approval, test report, technical documents: photos, labels, components with electromagnetic compatibility, block diagram, and user manual).

Declaration of Conformity

Mandatory execution date: January 18, 2002. Applicable products: 19 types of information technology equipment components. Applicable standard: CNS13438 (Only EMC). The required documents include (Declaration of Conformity, Test Report, Technical Documents: Photos, Labels, Components with Electromagnetic Interference, Block Diagram, and User Manual). No certificate.

7、 BSMI certification cycle

The regular cycle is 3-5 weeks, and urgent delivery is possible. Additional fees will be charged for urgent delivery.
